Okay so I know this has nothing to do with anything but after all these serious posts I just needed some comic relief. I found this on youtube…
Okay so I am a BIGTIME member of the Colbert Nation, and I watch the show religiously. It’s the best piece of comedic writing on television, and probably one of the best in terms of political satire. Anyway, tonight’s episode featured a visit from Fareed Zakaria, who I mentioned in a previous post. It took me back to that paranoia-inducing graphic that I dug up and posted, in which Zakaria’s book was referred to as a “muslim perspective”.
In today’s interview, Mr Zakaria was making alot of very valid points about the current state of the U.S. economy, and how this current downturn may actually be a blessing in disguise as it will motivate average Americans, along with our government, to save and spend more wisely. He was absolutely brilliant and, in my opinion, on the mark. Throughout the interview, he referred to the American people and government using the word “we” and “us”. Not “you”, not “they”….”us” and”we”. Doesn’t sound like a Muslim or foreign perspective to me! Sounds like an AMERICAN perspective! An American perspective is not limited to a religion (Zakaria is a Muslim but has stated that he is “not a religious guy”) or an ethnic heritage or being from a small town vs. being from a large city. No, an American perspective is a perspective one gains from considering oneself an American, and it is evident to me that Mr. Zakaria does.
Again, the McCain/Palin hatred machine, busy at work at defining what is and is not American, and again getting it wrong.
Welcome to my blog!! I couldn’t really think of a catchy title so maybe you all can suggest one!! This is kinda my all-purpose blog, I tend to post random stuff on myspace but on myspace, nobody reads it! So I thought I’d move it here and maybe find a few people who actually give a damn what I think and what I have to say. I’m also going to be posting academic works on here that I wrote while I was a student at CSU Long Beach, I hope you all find that stuff interesting, but if not, I will also be blogging my opinions and thoughts about current events, people, places, etc. etc. I’m a bigtime traveller, so you might want to check here from time to time for travel tips and recommendations and all that good stuff. Enjoy!!!
